Discover a mythical ocean journey
By day, our protagonist lives a life of quiet desperation, trapped in routine, suffocating in monotony, and haunted by a love that feels lost to time. By night, his dreams pull him back to the ocean, vivid and relentless. The sea is his escape, his addiction, his one true refuge. When he’s on the water with his closest friends, diving reefs, spearfishing, and chasing the thrill of the hunt, he feels alive again. The camaraderie is real, the salt air is healing, and the horizon promises freedom. But beneath the surface, something waits.
What begins as a thrilling spearfishing expedition spirals into a haunting nightmare, one so vivid it blurs the line between dream and reality. As our protagonist struggles to shake the darkness creeping into his subconscious, an unexpected invitation changes everything. A trip to Andros Island in the Bahamas reunites him with an old college friend who’s now researching the island’s legendary blue holes, vast underwater caverns shrouded in myth.
About me
Anthony D. Mendez
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I spent much of my childhood out on the ocean fishing and spearfishing throughout Florida and the Bahamas. These early experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for adventure, exploration of the unknown and most importantly an undying respect for the ocean—themes that have influenced my writing.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Central Florida. I’m Currently working for a rocket company on Florida’s Space Coast. While advancing my career as an engineer, I have maintained a lifelong passion for storytelling, using writing as a creative outlet to explore complex ideas that hold deeper meanings and human experiences.
Toby’s Treasure is currently my first and only published work. It is a blend of real-world experiences and unproven myths of the ocean, inviting readers to look beyond the obvious and uncover what could still lie beneath.
